The DJ Snoo Party Mask is wearable art, a one-of-a-kind mascot mask commissioned by Reddit and handcrafted in the Netherlands by Tentacle Studio.

Modeled in the image of Reddit’s Snoo mascot, the mask is 24” W (ear to ear) x 16” H (w/o the antenna) and weighs 4.4 lbs. (8.8 with carrying case). It features glowing orangered eyes, a poseable antenna, see-through smile. The mask is one-size-fits-all with an adjustable Velcro harness.

The mask was my prize for winning an employee charity auction that allowed me to select a piece of custom Reddit swag. I don’t think a massive one-of-a-kind handmade creation was quite what the Experience team had in mind, but in the true can-do spirit of Snoo, they were excited to make my big idea happen. I shared a couple of sketches and approximate measurements with Kori Denning, who led the project, and off she went.

I don’t recall exactly how long R&D took, but it was at least several months. It was the height of COVID and my project was far from Kori’s primary concern—she had her hands full making sure hundreds of Reddit employees felt supported as they sheltered in place.

Sidebar: Hella kudos to Kori and the Experience team for matching the Herculean task with equal vigor. They hosted elaborate company events remotely and sent employees cozy work-from-home gear and exotic snack boxes to help them feel at home work. It was a difficult but special time, and I’ve never felt more thankful or loyal to my co-workers as I did at Reddit.

Months passed and I’d almost forgotten about the mask, but halfway across the globe, my project was moving forward. Kori had identified a small, creative shop outside of Amsterdam, called Tentacle Studio, and tasked them with the construction of the mask.

In January 2022, I received some work-in-progress photos and my eyes lit up—because so did the mask’s. The final design featured LED lights in the mask’s eye sockets! The mask was finished in late March 2022 and shipped a few weeks later.

What arrived at my doorstep was a masterpiece. As I pulled the stippled white ovoid from its custom logo storage bag, I felt awe for the craftsmanship and intentionality Tentacle Studios put into the mask. They’d truly captured Snoo’s essence and energy. With its glowing orangered eyes and swiveling antenna, the mask oozed the exuberant playfulness that is familiar to anyone who has worked at Reddit. I switched on the LEDs, tightened the adjustable strap, climbed in, and immediately transformed into DJ Snoo!
